Scope: Multi-Phase Expansion and Renovation
Cook & Krupa led the multi-phase transformation of the original NYPCC building at 579 Courtlandt Avenue, expanding the facility from a 3-story structure to a 5-story building with a usable cellar — effectively creating a 6-floor facility. To ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical mental health services, we built 60 temporary offices at a nearby leased location.
While construction on the 579 building was underway, NYPCC purchased the adjacent 583 property. Cook & Krupa demolished the existing building and constructed a new extension, seamlessly integrating it with the 579 building, which remained operational throughout the process. Floors were connected one at a time to minimize disruption to staff and clients. In total, we created 320 treatment rooms across the combined properties, significantly boosting capacity. Renovations to the original facility included upgraded flooring and seating in waiting areas, the closure of outdated teller windows, and the addition of new Telehealth offices.
As the project neared completion, NYPCC acquired the 597 Courtlandt Avenue lot, originally intended for parking. However, with rising demand and the impact of the pandemic delaying its use, the lot was repurposed for further expansion, adding an additional 65 treatment rooms. Through strategic planning and phased execution, Cook & Krupa delivered a seamless expansion and renovation that allowed NYPCC to continue providing uninterrupted mental health services while significantly enhancing their facilities. The completed facility now features 385 treatment rooms, state-of-the-art Telehealth offices, and modernized waiting areas — empowering NYPCC to better meet the needs of its growing community.
